A festive 8ft Christmas tree donated by Blenheim Palace has been installed at Oxford station, decorated with rail-themed baubles created by pupils from St Barnabas’ C of E Primary School.
Children helped hang their ornaments on the tree before performing Christmas carols for passengers passing through the station concourse.
Oxford station’s Duty Station Manager, Warren Bartlett, and Customer Service Manager, Nicola Sutton, arranged the tree to celebrate the station’s links with the local community and to mark 200 years of the railway.
Oxford station’s Duty Station Manager, Warren Bartlett, said: “We wanted to give our customers a warm and festive welcome to the station this December, celebrating both Christmas and the Oxfordshire community.”
Blenheim Palace’s Head of Community Engagement, Merilyn Davies, said: “We were thrilled to support Great Western Railway’s idea of bringing a community-created tree to Oxford station.”
St Barnabas’ C of E Primary School’s Music Lead, Tania Garrod, said: “The children were so excited to be invited to sing at Oxford Railway Station… and are very proud that their work will be on display throughout December.”
The tree will remain in place for passengers to enjoy throughout the festive season.
